Control cabinets for fire extinguishing systems

Functional Features of Pump Control Cabinets in Water Fire Extinguishing Systems

Control cabinets are specialized devices for organizing the coordinated operation of asynchronous electric motors in fire protection systems. Their key task is to ensure the correct operation of pumping equipment based on the analysis of input signals and commands.

Equipment Operating Modes

The system supports two fundamentally different control modes:

Switching between modes is performed by the user via the interface on the front panel. The current system status is clearly displayed via LED indicators.

Main Operating Algorithms

The device implements two basic operating algorithms, each designed for specific types of fire extinguishing systems:

  1. "Combined Start" is optimized for sprinkler systems and water-filled fire extinguishing pipelines.
  2. "Fire Signal Start" is used in deluge fire extinguishing systems.

"Combined Start" Algorithm (automatic mode)

The operating pump is initiated in the following cases:

  • a drop in pipeline pressure is detected (signal from the pressure switch);
  • an external "Fire" signal is received from the control panel or fire alarm system;
  • the "Fire" button is pressed on the control panel of the cabinet.

The operating cycle includes the following stages:

  1. Activation of the mode is accompanied by the "Fire" indicator lighting.
  2. The system issues a command to open the bypass line valve of the water metering unit.
  3. The main pump starts.
  4. When the pressure returns to normal, the pump shuts off after a preset time delay.
  5. If the pressure drops again, the pump restarts with a time delay.

To terminate the fire extinguishing mode, set the switch to the "Lock" position.

Fire Alarm Start Algorithm (automatic mode)

Operation is initiated upon:

  • receiving an external "Fire" signal from the dispatcher or fire alarm;
  • pressing the "Fire/Early Start" button on the control panel.

Operating stages:

  1. After receiving a signal, the main pump starts with a specified delay.
  2. The pipeline is filled with water.
  3. The system switches to pressure maintenance mode with preset time intervals.

The mode is terminated by moving the switch to the "Lock" position.

For cabinets servicing three or more pumps, flexible adjustment of the ratio of active and standby units is provided.

Remote control of automatic start-up

The cabinet is equipped with the ability to connect external devices for:

  • deactivating automatic start-up mode;
  • resume automatic mode start.

Such devices are located in rooms with permanent duty personnel (for example, at a control station).

Operating mechanism:

  • When the "Automatic start canceled" signal is received, the system blocks automatic pump start-up even if the pressure switch is triggered or the "Fire" signal is received.
  • After the "Automatic start canceled" signal is removed, the cabinet automatically returns to automatic operation in accordance with the specified algorithm.

Additional functionality

The system has the following important features:

  • When a working pump fails, automatic Switching to the backup unit;
  • The "Alarm" indicator on the front panel is activated, indicating the faulty pump;
  • The contacts are switched to transmit data to the control system.

Detailed information on operating principles, settings, and operating features is contained in the control cabinet user manual.
