Solenoid (otherwise electromagnetic) valves are a device designed for remote and/or automatic regulation of flows of media (water, steam, gas, etc.) moving through pipelines.

They are used in automatic control systems for industrial technological processes and in household appliances, for example, they are used in irrigation and heating systems.

Structurally, they consist of a housing with a locking element, an electromagnetic coil, which during operation acts on the shut-off element (stem) of the valve, moving it to the required position.

Brass, cast iron, bronze and stainless steel are used to manufacture solenoid valve housings. Threaded and flanged types of connections are used during installation.

Depending on the direction of action of the coil on the shut-off element, electromagnetic valves are distinguished:

• - normally open (NO) - without power, the passage for the working medium is open. They are locked when a signal is applied to the coil.
• - normally closed (NC) - closed in the absence of electric current. When voltage is applied to the coil, they open.

By design, they are divided into direct and pilot (indirect) action valves.
